VIRTUAL LABORATORY MOLDYNGRID AS A PART OF SCIENTIFIC Andrii Salnikov 1), Ievgen Sliusar 1), Oleksandr Sudakov 1), Oleksandr Savytskyi 2), Alexander Kornelyuk 2)
1) Information and Computer Center, National Taras Shevchenko University of Kyiv, Glushkova prosp., 2, Kyiv, Virtual laboratory MolDynGrid has been established for computational researches in structural biology and bioinformatics, especially for molecular dynamics (MD) simulations of biological macromolecules and their complexes. Biomolecular simulation usually requires a very high processing power and huge storage space for MD trajectories. In this study we describe the development of virtual laboratory infrastructure to run massive MD simulations on a Grid infrastructure in a distributed manner. The aim of MolDynGrid development was to provide an efficient infrastructure for automation of MD job processing in Grid. It will assist researchers to use grid technology without having them to be familiar with highly complicated internals of the Grid. Web-portal of MolDynGrid virtual laboratory has been developed (http://moldyngrid.org), which consists of computational, analytical and educational blocks ànd data base of MD simulations. DIGITAL SIGNAL CHAINS IN PARTIAL DISCHARGE MEASUREMENT Josef Vedral, Martin Kriz, Karel Zalis
Czech Technical University in Prague, Technická 2, 16627 Prague The paper presents digital techniques in partial discharge measurement. The discharge current pulses are measured on high voltage machines such as power plant generators and transformers. The presented modern digital techniques are suitable for all measurement where impulse energy will be calculated.
DESIGN MODELS FOR EMBEDDED SYSTEMS Zdravko Karakehayov
Technical University of Sofia, This paper introduces a hierarchical design model for embedded systems which includes models of the application, the embedded system and the resources. The application model deals with locations to better describe distributed architectures. A location-driven method for design of distributed embedded systems is proposed as a direct extension of the design model. The method allows to benefit from fuzzy relationships between I/O variables and locations. An example shows a 29% reduction of the hardware complexity measured in number of pins. In case of wireless links the model allows sensor networks to gradually emerge as a class of embedded systems.
A FLEXIBLE IMAGE PROCESSING DESIGN BASED ON 2D DCT/IDCT Mohamed Atri, Wajdi Elhamzi, Rached Tourki
Faculty of Sciences Monastir, 5000, Tunisia, Many multimedia applications require a flexible image pr ocessing architecture. In this paper, we present the use of a hardware acceleration module (Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) and Inverse DCT (IDCT) coupled with a software partition running on a PowerPC Processor of a Xilinx FPGA. Therefore we have the benefits of flexible software partition on the PowerPC and the acceleration given by the remaining logic of the same FPGA. This implementation can be used in the context of video coding, object recognition, etc. The experimental results show optimization in processing time offered by hardware acceleration vs. software implementation.
OPTIMIZATION OF PIECEWISE NON-LINEAR MULTI CONSTRAINED B. Padmanabhan, R. S. SivaKumar, J. Jasper
Ponjesly College of Engineering, Nagercoil, India In this paper, a more realistic formulation of the Economic Dispatch problem is proposed, which considers practical constraints and non linear characteristics. The proposed ED formulation includes ramp rate limits, valve loading effects, equality and inequality constraints, which usually are found simultaneously in realistic power systems. This paper presents a novel Genetic Algorithm to solve the economic load dispatch (ELD) problem of thermal generators of a power system. This method provides an almost global optimal solution, since they don’t get stuck at local optimum. The proposed method and its variants are validated for the two test systems consisting of 3 and 10 thermal units whose incremental fuel cost functions takes into account the valve-point loading effects.
INTELLIGENT VOICE-BASED E-EDUCATION SYSTEM: Ambrose Azeta, Charles K. Ayo, Aderemi Aaron Anthony Atayero, Nicholas Ikhu-Omoregbe
Covenant University, Ota, Ogun state, Nigeria, Voice-based web e-Education is a technology-supported learning paradigm that allows phone-access of learners to e-Learning web-based applications. These applications are designed mainly for the visually impaired. They are however lacking in attributes of adaptive and reusable learning objects, which are emerging requirements for applications in these domain. This paper presents a framework for developing intelligent voice-based applications in the context of e-Education. The framework presented supports intelligent components such as adaptation and recommendation services. A prototype Intelligent Voice-based E-Education System (iVEES) was developed and subjected to test by visually impaired users. A usability study was carried out using the International Standard Organization’s (ISO) 9241-11 specification to determine the level of effectiveness, efficiency and user satisfaction. Report of our findings shows that the application is of immense benefit, based on the system’s inherent capacity for taking autonomous decision that are capable of adapting to users’ requests.
AUTOMATED SYSTEM OF ANALYSIS AND RECOGNITION OF Marina Polyakova, Victor Krylov, Natalia Gulyaeva, Tatyana Pruschak
Odessa national polytechnic university, The method of the extraction of the left ventricle contours is developed for ventriculograms which obtained by radiological research of heart with the angiographic system. The proposed method includes the underlining of left ventricle contours through the repagular wavelet transform, that allows to reduce the error of detection of the edge and the area of left ventricle.
ADAPTABLE THRESHOLD ENERGY SCHEME FOR LOAD BALANCING R. Sumathi 1), R. Srinivasan 2)
1) Siddaganga Institute of Technology, Energy efficiency is the major concern in the design of Wireless Sensor Network (WSN). It is imperative to develop protocols to distribute energy dissipation across nodes and reduces hotspots in the networks. In this paper, the Load Balancing Dynamic Adaptive Routing (LBDAR) a reactive and efficient data routing protocol is proposed for optimal distribution of load. Rather than finding an optimal path and use it for all communication, the proposed protocol dynamically constitutes energy sufficient routing path from source to sink for each round of communication, by considering two parameters, they are frequency count and adaptable threshold energy. The frequency count provides good chance for all the nodes to actively participate in forwarding data messages and the adaptable threshold energy prevents the early death of heavily involved nodes due to battery drain off, and thus helps in achieving our goal to distribute the load and hence enhances the network lifetime. The performance is evaluated by simulation using ns-2 simulator and results show that the LBDAR solves effectively the problem of load balancing and is also more efficient in terms of energy consumption and improves network lifetime.
DISTRIBUTED VISUAL PATTERN STRUCTURE FEATURES Roman Melnyk, Yuriy Kalychak
Lviv Polytechnic National University An approach to determine structural integral and distributed image features on the basis of the “X-ray” algorithm from the perspective of the frontal plane XOZ or lateral plane YOZ is considered. The distributed structural features of segments are formed for the space of intensity. Segmentation is performed through splitting the image and space by intensity and coordinate values. The results of defined features and searching algorithm are presented.
PROJECT RISK MANAGEMENT USING MONTE CARLO Wolfgang Tysiak, Alexander Sereseanu
University of Applied Sciences Dortmund, In every project, especially in software and IT projects, there is the need to perform an elaborated risk management. One main task that often causes problems is the quantitative risk analysis. In this article we will show how to deal with this by using a well-known standard product: EXCEL. |
